Selena Gomez admits to being unfamiliar with the work of Hulu co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short

Selena Gomez admitted that she wasn't too familiar with the work of Steve Martin and Martin Short on Tuesday while promoting their new Hulu series.

The 29-year-old actress joined Martin, 76, and Short, 71, for a joint appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to promote their Hulu series Only Murders In The Building.

'Were you familiar with these guys' work before? Did you know who Ed Grimley was, for instance,' asked Colbert, 57, referencing Short's cowlicked character who made his TV debut in 1982 on the sketch comedy show SCTV.

'No,' Gomez replied to laughter.

'But I obviously knew Father Of The Bride, Three Amigos, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,' she said to applause.

'When we met in the hallway, she came up to me and said, ''I'm so honored to meet you, Angela Lansbury'',' quipped Martin, referencing the 95-year-old actress.

Colbert then asked Short about his first impressions of Gomez.

'I met her in the makeup chair, the first day that we shot. And I was right away struck by this beautiful, engaging and right away charming person,' Short said.

Short said it was a 'very easy' shoot since all three of them like to work in 'great ease'.

'I didn't know her. You could have been horrible,' Short said.

'I know. I'm glad I'm not,' Gomez replied.

Gomez, Martin and Short portray true crime fans who investigate a homicide in their apartment complex in the Hulu series Only Murders In The Building.

The series has been receiving critical acclaim with fans enjoying the generation gap comedy between Gomez and her older co-stars. 

Life apparently imitates art as Gomez said she doesn't communicate with Martin and Short via text but only by email which the actors typically sign.

Gomez shared a clip that showed her teaching Martin and Short the meaning of 'OG' and using them as an example though they managed to mispronounce it. 

Martin and Gomez also revealed that they were actual true crime fans.

The Jerk star said he listens to an Australian crime podcast called Case File and Gomez said she and her mother once attended CrimeCon.

'You get to go to a place where there are other people like you and want to solve a case,' she explained.

Only Murders In The Building premiered on August 31 on Hulu.

The eighth and final episode will be released on October 5.
