Jake Gyllenhaal stars in eerie first teaser for The Guilty as he tries to save life of desperate woman who has been abducted

The first teaser trailer for Jake Gyllenhaal's upcoming thriller The Guilty is finally here.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film takes place over a single morning and follows 911 call operator Joe Baylor (played by 40-year-old Gyllenhaal) dealing with a call from a woman named Emily who claims she has been kidnapped.

Just 47 seconds in length, the short preview is composed solely of audio and Joe can be heard desperately trying to gather information from Emily, who tells him: 'I'm in the back of a van and I can't see anything.'

Joe proceeds to order police units to find Emily, who says while in tears: 'I'm going to die.'

Ensuring Emily that she's going to be ok, Joe tells her: 'Listen to me.'

As dialogue flashes up on screen, it begins to form actor Gyllenhaal's face before cutting to the film's title.

The Guilty - due to hit Netflix on October 1 - is a remake of the Danish thriller of the same name, which won the World Cinema Audience Award at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and was named one of the top five foreign films by the National Board of Review.

The original movie follows a police officer who is being investigated, and thus demoted to desk duty at an emergency call centre.

After he receives a call from a kidnapped woman, he must spring into action and race against the clock to save her before it's too late.

The original film stars Jakob Cedergen as the police officer.

In September, Netflix bought the worldwide rights to The Guilty for around $30 million, according to Deadline.

The project reunites American director Antoine and leading man Jake, who have previously worked together on the 2015 boxing drama film Southpaw.

True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto wrote the screenplay.

Gyllenhaal and his Nine Stories partner Riva Marker are producing the film, along with Fuqua and Kat Samick for Fuqua Films, David Litvak and Svetlana Metkina for Bold Films, Scott Greenberg, Michel Litvak, Gary Michael Walters and Amet Entertainment's David Haring.

The Guilty also stars Ethan Hawke, Riley Keough, Paul Dano and Peter Sarsgaard.
