Christina Hendricks reveals that she was the hand model in the poster for the Oscar-winning 1999 film American Beauty
Long before her masterful performances on Mad Men and Good Girls, Christina Hendricks was a star on the rise.
The actress recently revealed one of her first roles, which even her most loyal fans couldn't have guessed.
Hendricks, 44, took to Instagram Thursday with the poster for the 1999 Oscar-winning film American Beauty, in which she played an unexpected part.
The star revealed that although the poster displayed another model's navel, she was the hand model who held the rose.
She wrote in the caption: 'Fun fact.... wait for it...I used to be a model and sometimes a hand model.... this is my hand and another model’s stomach....proud to be a part if this film in ANY WAY!!!'

Hendricks' hand and the other model's midriff stood in for star Mena Suvari, who infamously laid naked in a bed of roses for one scene.
The movie also starred Kevin Spacey, Annette Bening and Thora Birch as a dysfunctional suburban family.
One particularly problematic storyline that didn't age well involved Spacey's Lester trying to seduce his daughter's best friend (played by Suvari).
Hendricks later got her big break as Joan in the '60s-set drama series Mad Men on AMC.
She currently stars alongside Retta and Mae Whitman in the NBC crime dramedy Good Girls.
