Costly win! Maria Menounos reveals she lost a diamond from her engagement ring as she celebrated the Patriots Super Bowl success

As her team put all their blood sweat and tears into making the biggest come back in NFL history, this celebrity fan also paid a high price.

Maria Menounos has revealed she lost a diamond from her engagement ring at Sunday's Super Bowl.

The 38-year-old New England Patriots supporter told E! News she sacrificed the precious jewel as she freaked out over the tie-breaking touchdown.

She told the website: 'It pays to be a superfan of the Patriots. I didn't know that I could break my ring being a superfan but apparently that's what happened.'

It is not hard to see how the star lost a diamond, as in video she posted on Instagram the host did not hold back as her beloved team clawed their way back in victory.

The star, who was watching from a box, slammed her hands down on the edge of the seating area as her team scored a touchdown. 

While sad, the star lost one of the smaller diamonds out of her ring so it can be repaired.

But Maria is in no rush - as she is sure she will be right back in that box next Super Bowl. 

She told E!: 'I might wait until I bang my hands on a few more metal boards at another game because I think the Patriots will be right back there again next year.

'I think I learned my lesson, and when I have to be a superfan I'll just wear it around my neck or something because this is going to be an expensive habit being a big sports fan.'

Maria got engaged last March to her partner of 19 years Keven Undergaro, who proposed with a custom ring from Jean Dousset.

The ring has a round, brilliant-cut center stone set in halo that is adorned with 220 intricately set brilliant-cut diamonds - so she can get away with losing one.

She is not the only one missing something post the game, quaterback Tom Brady had his game-worn jersey stolen from the Patriots' locker room.

Police are currently invetstigating the theft of the jersey which is woirth around $500,000.

The reward is being offered by Crime Stoppers in Houston. A spokesman told DailyMail.com offers up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in a felony case, but would not comment specifically on the Brady jersey search.
