Back on! Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere 'will return to Nashville' as show finds new home at CMT after ABC cancellation

Nashville fans were crushed when ABC canceled the hit country show in May.

But now devotees can rejoice as the series was picked up by CMT and will return for a fifht season, EW reported on Thursday. 

Connie Britton, 49, and Hayden Panettiere, 26, along with other core cast members, will bring back more drama on the small screen, according to the publication.

While most fan favorites are returning, the publication revealed that Will Chase and Aubrey Peeples will not be reprising their roles as Luke Wheeler and Layla Grant.  

The beloved series, which was averaging about 7 million viewers per week, was canceled by ABC after a four-season run in May.   

The popular musical show, which launched in 2012, was rescued later by CMT which is now confirmed to broadcast the fifth season while Hulu will then stream the episodes the following day. 

Meanwhile, the fourth season's finale concluded with a plane crash cliffhanger leaving Nashville addicts furious.

In it, Juliette Barnes, played by Hayden, rushed off to reunite with her ex, played by actor Jonathan Jackson, 34, and their daughter as her plane went missing. 

Viewers will finally learn of the country pop diva's fate as Juliette's story line continues next season on CMT. 

The musical drama television series was created by Academy Award winner Callie Khouri.

Set against the backdrop of the Nashville music scene, the series revolves around Connie as Rayna Jaymes, a legendary country music superstar, whose stardom begins fading.

She is forced to team up with Juliette in order to maintain her label's support for her latest record, whose sales have been underwhelming. 

At the 70th Golden Globe Awards, Connie was nominated for Best Actress and Hayden for Best Supporting Actress, while the series received a nomination for Favorite New TV Drama at the 39th People's Choice Awards.

At the 71st Golden Globe Awards, Hayden received a second nomination for Best Supporting Actress and Jonathan was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

Hayden checked into a facility for depression in May.

'The postpartum depression I have been experiencing has impacted every aspect of my life,' the actress wrote on Twitter. 'Rather than stay stuck due to unhealthy coping mechanisms I have chosen to take time to reflect holistically on my health and life. Wish me luck!'
