'They started writing us for comedy instead': Offspring's Kat Stewart recalls how a steamy sex scene with co-star Eddie Perfect for the pilot was 'awkward'

They play the blissfully happy couple on Australia's favourite show Offspring, but things between actors Kat Stewart and Eddie Perfect didn't start off so smoothly.

In fact, it was actually a little awkward, so much so that it changed how the script writers approached their characters.

Speaking with News.com.au, 43-year-old Kat said steamy chemistry was something that was just never going to happen.

'They started writing us for comedy instead': Offspring's Kat Stewart recalls how a steamy sex scene with co-star Eddie Perfect for the pilot was 'awkward'

'We were so awkward that they just started writing us for comedy instead,' she said.

'They were never going to get that out of us and it’s pretty much held.'

Her character Billie Proudman is happy married to Mick Holland, although the latest season will see them in separate countries when it first airs on June 29.

'I love their relationship because it’s playful. They’re not a glamorous, windswept, romanticised version of marriage. They’re real people — well, they’re like real people to me!' enthuses Kat.

While Kat jumped straight back into filming two months following the birth of her daughter Gigi, she has previously said the show has been supportive.

She was even able to have her bundle of joy with her on-set every day, and that many other cast members do the same, giving it a ‘inclusive and chaotic family feel’.

‘Really, how many jobs let you do that? It’s been pretty amazing,’ she told TV Week

Kat, who also has a four-year-old son Archie, said Gigi is finally sleeping through the night (though she knocked on wood in the hope of not jinxing herself), but she is still flat out.

'My life at the moment is two kids, sleep, cleaning and work,' she said.

'There's no time for hobbies or a social life! But I wouldn’t have it any other way.'
