Daniel Craig is almost unrecognisable with long hair and a grey beard as he joins Mila Kunis and Josh O'Connor on the set of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery for the first time

Daniel Craig, Mila Kunis and Josh O'Connor were seen for the first time on the set of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery on Monday. 

The actor, 56, who has reprised his role as Detective Benoit Blanc for the third instalment, was pictured with a long hair do and grey beard. 

Production for the for the highly anticipated who-done-it movie kicked off this month, with the film set for a release date next year. 

Details are being kept tight under wraps but it promises to see Detective Benoit's  'most dangerous case yet.'

It is unknown who Mila, 40, will be playing, but she was seen wearing a grey sheriff's hat while walking alongside Josh, 34. 

Both stars were confirmed to be joining the cast last month, with Jeremy Renner returning to the screen after the horrific 2023 snow plowing accident that nearly killed him.

He was severely injured in the January 1, 2023, accident that left him with more than 30 broken bones, a collapsed lung and pierced liver from a shattered rib. 

The Netflix production started principal photography on Monday and director Rian Johnson gushed about the cast he has assembled for the film.

'We’ve been very lucky with each of these movies to have gathered some of my favourite actors on the planet, and that’s absolutely the case here,' he said. 

'They’re also all lovely folks who get along, which is the dinner party aspect of it. When you’re making an ensemble movie like this I think that’s key.'

The cast also includes Adam Scott, Glenn Close and Kerry Washington. 

Renner takes on a whole part in the third film. He appeared in the second film in the form of a bottle of 'Renning Hot' habanero chili pepper sauce.

He took that joke in stride and Johnson was thrilled to get the chance to work with him. 

'Jeremy’s a great actor who I’ve wanted to work with for a long time,' Rian told Netflix’s Tudum.

'I was very relieved he thought the hot sauce thing was funny! He’s playing a proper part in this one, we’ll keep the sauce off screen. Maybe we’ll sneak a few bottles onto the catering table.'

Details of the mystery Blanc will be tasked with solving are being kept tight under wraps.

In the brief teaser trailer the narrator simply promises it is his 'most dangerous case yet.'

The first Knives Out drew its title from a Radiohead song, the second from a Beatles tune.

The third film's title comes from a 1997 U2 song, Wake Up Dead Man, off the album Pop. 

Johnson previously gave Knives Out fans a taste of what to expect in the latest whodunnit.

He posted on X (formerly Twitter): 'I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. 

There's a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.

'We're about to go into production on the 3rd one, and I'm very, very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it's going. (sic)'
