Daddio first look: Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn are seen in their new film about a LONG conversation that takes place while in a New York City taxi

Two new stills from Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn's upcoming movie Daddio were released on Monday.

The feature was produced by the 33-year-old actress' independent entertainment company TeaTime Pictures.

Johnson and Penn, 63, are the sole stars of the drama, which sees the duo in just one location throughout the movie's entirety.

Following the two through New York City in a cab ride from JFK Airport to midtown Manhattan, the plot tracks a single conversation between the duo.

Originally written as a play, Daddio was penned by playwright Christy Hall, who also directed.

In a joint Instagram post shared by TeaTime and Dakota, the caption read: 'First look at the newest member of the TeaTime family.'

Added in the note were two emoji - a yellow taxi cab and the head of a blonde woman.

In the taxi ride, the driver (Penn) and passenger (Johnson) are strangers who discuss various subjects ranging from romantic love to childhood trauma.

Addressing the intimacy of the actor's dialogue, Hall told Entertainment Weekly, 'It's easier, I think, to bare your soul to someone like a cabbie, because you know you're never going to see them again.'

And she praised the 13 Shades Of Grey star's performance as she gushed, '[Dakota] brings a remarkable complexity to her character, skillfully excavating profound depths in ways that took this role to places well beyond what I had imagined.'

She explained further, 'From start to finish, you truly cannot divert your gaze. She embodies a character who is confident yet vulnerable.

'She seamlessly balances between being sexy and foul-mouthed while still maintaining an innocent softness.'

The first-time director added: 'She also has this cheeky curiosity, a playful grace that permits this conversation to unfold, because her character isn't afraid of the colorful personalities that roam the city of New York.'

Entertainment Weekly noted that the cab driver was written with an abundance of inner contradictions, which she believed was a good fit for Sean.

'His immeasurable talent affords him the unique ability to ride that razor's edge that we all have within us, that thin dividing line between our greatest angels and our darkest demons,' she told the publication.

'Our cabbie needed to be both deeply charming and wildly offensive. He is vastly intelligent and shockingly base, highly evolved and stuck in his own era, has a hardened exterior and also a tender heart,' she described.

'I don't know anyone else in the world who could so effortlessly allow all these truths to co-exist within one unforgettable character.'

The movie was shot in a mere 16 days, which Hall said was 'challenging.'

'It was beyond challenging for all of us. But together, we made it,' the proud screenwriter said.

Most of the footage was filmed on a soundstage with LED screens simulating city streets.

When it came to writing the script, Christy took inspiration from the Big Apple.

'Our characters aren't based on anyone in particular or any specific incident, but they do represent this quintessential New York experience of having the audacity — or pleasure — to just talk to someone, to open up, to be real for a moment.

'To allow those cosmic confessionals to reveal themselves right when you need them the most,' she said.

She added that NYC is 'the place I found myself, time and time again, caught up in the most life-changing conversations with complete strangers — sitting at a bar, riding the train, and yes, hailing a yellow taxi cab.'
