Michelle Pfeiffer, 64, shares she won the role of Catwoman after Annette Bening dropped out when she became pregnant with Warren Beatty's baby

Michelle Pfeiffer talked about how she came to play Catwoman in 1992's hit film Batman Returns on Wednesday's edition of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

The 64-year-old Scarface star shared that she only won the role when Annette Bening dropped out when she became pregnant with Warren Beatty's baby. Warren and Annette welcomed their first child Stephen in 1992, the same year they wed.

'Someone was cast before me, Annette Bening who is wonderful,' she added. 'And then she got pregnant. Awesome. And then I got the part.'

Pfeiffer discussed a number of topics in the interview, beginning with her nomination for Best Actress In A Limited Series Or Movie Made For Television at the Critics Choice Awards. 

She was nominated for her turn as Betty Ford in the Showtime series First Lady, and she is pitted against Julia Garner (Inventing Anna), Lily James (Pam & Tommy), Amber Midthunder (Prey), Julia Roberts (Gaslit) and Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout).

She referred to her fellow nominees as an 'illustrious group of actresses.' 

Fallon then told her he'd read that she generally tries to get out of or fired from acting jobs which the Grease 2 actress admitted. 

She admitted to feeling 'performance anxiety,' but also said that she'd heard a person should quit acting if that nervous feeling ever goes away. 

While Pfeiffer confirmed she felt that way while filming Scarface, she was quick to deny feeling anxious while shooting Batman Returns because she was 'obsessed with Catwoman' since she was young.

The conversation then switched to the new superhero movie she will take part in –Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. 

Pfeiffer called superhero movies a 'mixed bag' citing the uncomfortable costumes as a negative but adding that Ant-Man was such a 'fun one to work on.' 

She went on to say that she enjoyed spending more time around the main players in the cast, an opportunity she wasn't afforded when she appeared in Ant-Man and the Wasp in a small part.

She said the two worked together on the new Ant-Man movie, but couldn't reveal any details about their scenes together. 

Pfeiffer also talked about the trials and tribulations of her fragrance line Henry Rose which is finally off and running after years of false starts. 

She revealed she has a heightened sense of smell which she found out during a visit to her ear, nose and throat doctor.

'He was looking up my nostril, and he goes "Oh, interesting," she explained. 

When she asked him what was interesting, he replied, 'You have an organ in your nose that people don't usually have.' 

Pfeiffer said the doctor called it a vomeronasal organ, also known as Jacobson's organ, 'a patch of sensory cells within the main nasal chamber that detects heavy moisture-borne odour particles,' according to Encyclopedia Britannica  

She went on to say that many mammals use the organ to 'detect pheromones and mate.' 

Pfeiffer sprayed Fallon with a bit of the perfume, and he began to dance joyously to his new smell as the clip came to an end.
