'Looks like great-grandma went to the Met Gala': A$AP Rocky fans are left in awe after learning his quilt-style cape was picked up from a thrift store in LA

The origins of A$AP Rocky's Met Gala look left fans speechless, after one social media user revealed part of it was picked up from a thrift store. 

A woman named Sarah penned a now-viral Instagram post, in which she revealed his quilt-style cape was actually made by her great grandmother.  

'I realized instantly that it had to be the same quilt,' Sarah wrote under a side-by-side image of the rapper, 31, attending fashion's biggest night out on September 13 and a recently donated blanket laying on a bed at home.

She continued: 'I read the Vogue article about the designer finding the quilt in Southern California and with his office not that far from us in Venice, California, I demanded that my mom go look for the photos of it on our old bed.' 

'Looks like great grandma Mary went to the #metgala with @asaprocky and @erl__________ they wrote a @voguemagazine article too,' she revealed of the origins behind the F**kin' Problems hitmaker's eye-catching look. 

In a follow-up post, Sarah shared more photos of the quilt and made it clear that she was not 'accusing anyone of stealing' or seeking financial compensation.  

'I posted this because I found it amazing that something that my great grandmother made out of love for my mother, to be used to keep her warm, and was donated so that it might keep somebody else warm or sold to raise funds for a lovely charity, ended up being used for an amazing statement art piece by amazingly talented people who took it to the next level,' she explained.  

The post, which has more than 56,408 likes, even earned a double tap from A$AP Rocky's girlfriend Rihanna. 

The pair have been romantically linked since late 2020, following seven years of friendship. 

Sarah was flooded with hundreds of comments about how cool it was to see the star 'wearing a thrifted vintage quilt and not just something that looked like one.' 

'This is so incredible. What a lovely surprise that just have been,' on Instagram user gushed. 

'Absolutely love a full circle story—and this is a quintessential American tale. An honest fairytale “rags to riches” tale in America come to life where a quilt made to keep someone who was very loved warm and comfortable, ended up being made into the belle of the ball—literally. This is the best,' another marveled.
