Amazon is slated to make at least three more Woody Allen movies but could opt for a 'hefty payout' to kill the deal

  • Amazon signed a five-picture deal with director Woody Allen in 2016
  • The deal was struck by former studio head Roy Price, who resigned in October amid sexual harassment claims brought against him
  • 'Wonder Wheel' was released last year but didn't make much at the box office
  • Amazon has already poured $25million into financing 'A Rainy Day in New York'
  • Allen has been dogged by allegations that he sexually molested his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow
  • The director has vehemently denied all of Farrow's accusations against him

Amid the allegations of sexual assault against Woody Allen, his latest distributor, Amazon Studios, may be considering cutting ties.

The 2016 five-picture deal was struck by then-studio head Roy Price, who resigned in October after he was suspended by Amazon due to sexual harassment claims against him.

Amazon Studios is already on the hook to release Allen's 'A Rainy Day in New York'. So now either Amazon will be forced to stick with Allen or pay the director a great deal of money to sever the contact.

Allen has been dogged by allegations that he sexually molested his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, which he vehemently denies.

Amazon Studios may sever its five-picture deal with director Woody Allen, which was struck in 2016 by then-studio head Roy Price (right, with Allen in September 2016), who resigned in October after he was suspended by Amazon due to sexual harassment claims against him
Allen has been dogged by allegations that he sexually molested his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow (left, with mom Mia Farrow in April 2016), which he vehemently denies.

The New York Times recently reported that the company is leaning towards  a pay-out and is having 'serious conversations' about severing that relationship.

In 2015, Allen and Amazon joined forces for the director's first-ever TV series 'Crisis in Six Scenes'. The relationship continued when the company helped distribute Allen's movie 'Café Society'.

The 2016 deal began with last year's Wonder Wheel, starring Kate Winslet and Jim Belushi, which only grossed $1.4million domestically, according to Box Office Mojo.

However, Allen has faced intense scrutiny in the light of the allegations by Farrow that he molested her when she just seven years old.

There have been rumors that the studio might release 'A Rainy Day in New York' quietly, with little to no promotion, or even drop it altogether.

Three of the film's stars - Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Hall, and Griffin Newman - have already announced that they're donating their salaries to charities like RAINN and Time's Up in light of the accusations.
