'My speech had gotten slurred and I was having difficulty reading the teleprompter,' the veteran TV and Sirius XM radio host tells People.

Alarmed, Menounos went in for an MRI test that revealed a meningioma brain tumor that was pushing on her facial nerves.

‘I didn’t cry. I actually laughed,’ she recalls her initial reaction. ‘It’s so surreal and crazy and unbelievable that my mom has a brain tumor, and now I have one too?’

On the day of her 39th birthday, June 8, Menounos underwent an intricate seven-hour surgery to remove most of the growth from her brain, which turned out to have been benign.

Menounos says her neurosurgeon Dr Keith L. Black, who also has been treating her mother, has warned her there is a 6-7 per cent chance the tumor will return in the future.

'But I'll take those odds any day,' she says.

‘I don’t have my balance fully yet but as long as I’m holding on to Keven, I’m sturdy and fine,’ she says.

Menounos says her face is still numb from the operation, but she is expected to make a full recovery within a month.

Meanwhile, she says her mother Litsa's latest MRI showed that the malignant tumor in her brain has not enlarged.

Menounos says she views her health crisis as blessing that has forced her to take a fresh look at her life.

On Monday, the E! News anchor and Dancing With The Stars alum put out a statement announcing her decision to part ways with the network.

‘I am so grateful for the past three years at E!,’ Menounos’ statement posted on E! Online reads. ‘I had such an amazing time co-hosting with Jason Kennedy and working everyday with the wonderful roster of talent on the show including producers, staff and crew. It was such a special, good-hearted group and one I'll always consider family.

In her exclusive interview with People Magazine, now on newsstands, Menounos says she plans to take some time off and focus on unspecified ‘passion projects.'

‘I've always been so proud of being a hard worker, but there's so much more out there,’ she tells the magazine. ‘I just want to be still for a bit and see what I'm supposed to be in this world.’
