Mother aged FOURTEEN drove under the influence and crashed car, killing her one-year-old son, toddler's relative says
A one-year-old Virginia boy was tragically killed when his 14-year-old mother drove under the influence and crashed a car in a late night collision, police say.
The boy, named Ma'Khai, passed away three days after his mother, whose identity is not being published, crashed a car they were in on the I-64 highway in Hampton, Virginia on March 23.
Officials said Ma'Khai's mother was not wearing a seatbelt and did not have the infant properly restrained when she veered off the road and crashed into a wall.
The young mother is facing charges of driving under the influence, driving without a license and a child restraint violation, and cops said further charges may be pending.
Her family members said they did not know where she got the car nor why she was out driving late at night with her one-year-old.
Police have not clarified what substance the teenager was accused of being under the influence of when she crashed.
Tanisha Logan, the mother of the infant's 17-year-old father, said the family have been left devastated by the tragedy.
'This right here just took my world. I don’t know how I’m even standing here right now,' she told WTKR.

He was just days away from his second birthday when he succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital on Thursday.
The boy's heartbroken family said they do not understand why his young mother took him out to drive, adding that she remains hospitalized over a week after the crash.
According to a GoFundMe set up by a friend of the family, the teen mother veered off the road and hit a guardrail, crossed multiple lanes and slammed into a jersey wall.
The fundraiser said that no other vehicles were involved before the car lost control.
Logan said while she is angry with Ma'Khai's mother, she can't bring herself to hate her for causing the tragedy.
'The Lord, my spirit, won’t let me. My spirit won’t let me,' she said as she grew emotional at a press conference this week.

Ma'Khai's godfather, Donte Walls, said he was devastated and confused by the young mom's decision to go for the late night drive.
In a message to young people, he said: 'Be more responsible. Stop trying to outgrow your age and just be your age. There’s nothing wrong with being a teenager. Stop thinking that you’re grown.'
Police said the crash remains under investigation.
The Daily Mail has contacted the Virginia State Police for more information on the case.
