Cillian murphy has revealed he would reprise his role as infamous gangster Tommy Shelby should Peaky Blinders hit the cinemas.
Speaking today on Desert Island Discs, the 47-year-old Hollywood sensation admits he was ‘relieved’ when the BBC drama ended in 2022 – but is now ‘totally’ on board with a movie adaptation.
Murphy also hinted that the programme’s writer, Steven Knight, had more stories to tell about the Birmingham-based Shelby clan and their criminal activities between the 1880s and 1910s.

He explained: ‘I have always said that if Knight delivers a script that I know he can deliver, because he is such a phenomenal writer, I’ll be there. If we want to watch 50-year-old Tommy Shelby, let’s do it.’
Peaky Blinders launched in 2013 and garnered huge audiences both in Britain and overseas, attracting roles for silver-screen stars such as Tom Hardy and Anya Taylor-Joy.
Murphy’s remarks will be seized upon by fans as the clearest indication yet that a movie adaptation is on its way – which was further fuelled when the Oppenheimer star was last week spotted drinking in a pub with Knight.
Murphy also paid tribute to his co-star Helen McCrory
Murphy also paid tribute to his co-star Helen McCrory, who played the formidable Aunt Polly until her death from cancer in 2021.
He said: ‘Helen was always funny and always brightened up every set. I loved her and still miss her.’
Desert Island Discs airs on BBC Radio 4 today at 11.15am.
