Motorists were treated to an adorable sight on Wednesday when a cow stuck her head out of the top of a transport truck.

Filmed on the Tullamarine Highway near Essendon DFO in Melbourne, the hilarious video shows the farm animal looking around in confusion.

The cow's front legs can be seen dangling over the edge while the car's occupants react in shock.

'What the hell is that?' says one of the people in the car, Nine News reported.

'It's a cow!' says the other. 

Their surprise soon turns to concern, as they worry the animal will be hit by a barrier over the road ahead.

'Bro, that can hit the top of the thing man,' one of the men says.

'Yeah I know I'm waiting for it, stay close to it,' says the other, clearly concerned.

Fortunately the obstacle is high enough and the cow passes under it unharmed. 

The video, posted to Facebook, ends soon afterwards and the cow is believed to have arrived at its destination without injury.
