The BBC has confirmed the return of Race Across The World for a sixth series - this time with a first-of-its-kind route and the 'toughest journey yet'.

The five teams taking part in the race will this time be tasked with travelling a 12,000km (7450miles) journey across Europe and Asia

In what the BBC have described as most difficult journey to date, the pairings will have to travel through Italy, Greece, Türkiye, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan - finishing in northern Mongolia.

The duos include best friends Jo and Kush, siblings Katie and Harrison, father and daughter Andrew and Molly, cousins Puja and Roshni and in-laws Mark and Margo.

In true Race Across The World fashion, they will have to complete the journey without the use of smart phones or bank cards, and using the cash equivalent of flying the same route.

The team who makes it to the end the fastest will take home the £20,000 prize, with nine episodes due to hit screens for fans to follow on BBC One.

It comes after the BBC launched a series of spin-off shows for popular TV shows - including Race Across The World and Sort Your Life Out in a brand new landmark streaming shake-up.

A selection of video podcasts have been produced for iPlayer, BBC Sounds and YouTube for fans to enjoy after what they found out from their recent survey - that three in five podcast listeners had engaged in one in the past week.

To further cement their decision to create more podcasts, video podcasts The Traitors: Uncloaked and The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked, had a whopping 11.8 million combined plays between 6 October and 3 November.

This means that the BBC have introduced five new shows called Sort Your Life Out Unpacked, Race Across the World: The Detour, Pop Top Ten, Uncanny Cold Cases and Fame Under Fire with Anoushka Mutanda-Dougherty.

Sort Your Life Out Unpacked will be presented by Dilly Carter, who has been on the BBC programme since it started five years ago.

The home improvement reality TV show hit our screens in 2021 and recently premiered its sixth season.

The programme follows Stacey and team of experts transform homes in need of a makeover.

One of those experts is Dilly, who is known as the incredible organiser on the hit.

The BBC has described Sort Your Life Out Unpacked as an 'extension' of the popular programme.

It will see Dilly interview celebrities such as Lorraine Kelly, Kerry Katona, Dr Alex George and even Stacey.

They will be asked to bring in three personal items from their home - will they be able to keep, donate or recycle any of them?

And fans will be able to watch and listen to it on BBC iPlayer and BBC sounds next month from April 7.

Meanwhile Scott Mills, who won the second series of the celebrity version of Race Across the World, will be the voice and face behind Race Across the World: The Detour.

The competition show hit our screens back in 2019, and 42 episodes have aired across five series.

'No flights, no phones - and one high-stakes, low-budget race to the finish. On a globe-spanning adventure of a lifetime, which pair will cross the line first?,' BBC iPlayer's synopsis of the show reads.

The BBC have described the podcast as the programme's 'younger, wilder sibling, charting the ups and downs of the upcoming series'.

Scott will also be joined by series four winner Alfie Watts.

Fans will be able to watch and listen to the podcast on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds each week, after the episode of the upcoming series has aired next month.

The BBC are very excited about the new upcoming projects.

Managing editor, podcast strategy and video podcasts at BBC sounds,  Jonathan Kanagasooriam, has said of the move: 'Video podcasts mean audio can drive impact across the BBC, in a must watch and listen slate.

'From brand extensions of hit TV shows and podcasts to innovative cross-platform formats that reach a new generation of listeners and viewers, we’re uniquely placed in the market to bring audio and video together.

'It’s all about continuing to innovate as the landscape evolves and doing what only the BBC can do.'

Meanwhile service executive at BBC iPlayer, Beatrice Cooke, added: 'BBC iPlayer is the natural home for our biggest TV brands, and video podcasts let us take audiences even deeper into those worlds.

'They’re a powerful way to build fandom and bring new, younger audiences to the BBC.'
