Public warned of new computer scam as hackers use fake Australia Post email to steal security information

An email claiming to be from Australia Post is going around at the moment, with authorities warning people that the message could pose a security threat.

Queensland Police Station released a statement encouraging any recipients of Australia Post emails to err on the side of caution, 9 News reports.

'An email is currently doing the rounds claiming to be from Australia Post with details of your purchase and seeking to organise arrangements for delivery,' they said.

Queensland Police are warning people about a malicious email doing the rounds at the moment, which claims to be from Australia Post while asking for personal and financial information

'The email contains malicious software (malware) which is then loaded onto your computer.'

QPS goes on to stress that Australia Post will never ask you to click on email links in order to redeem a package, never contact you for personal or financial information, and never contact you out of the blue for a requested payment.

They are encouraging recipients of any suspicious looking emails to avoid clicking on any links or attachments, deleting the emails instead.
