Sarah Paulson has an awkward interview with Jimmy Fallon when he admits he 'tried' and failed to read The Goldfinch
Sarah Paulson appeared on The Tonight Show on Tuesday night, where she had to endure quite the awkward interview with host Jimmy Fallon.
The 44 year old actress was there to promote her voice role in the animated film Abominable, in theaters September 27, and The Goldfinch, in theaters now, when Fallon admitted he 'tried' and failed to read The Goldfinch book.
While Paulson raved about Donna Tartt's Pulitzer Prize winning book the film is adapted from, stating it's a beautiful book, Fallon's admission made Paulson laugh.
Awkward: Sarah Paulson appeared on The Tonight Show on Tuesday night, where she had to endure quite the awkward interview with host Jimmy Fallon
'800 pages is just too much for you, right?' Paulson said, as Fallon tried to explain the parts of the book he did read, he liked.
'It is beautiful and great, and I go, 'I get it.' And then it went into a different story and I go, 'What happened?'' Fallon tried to explain.
Paulson couldn't help but laugh again, adding that they should, 'cut that part out because it sounds like it's not good.'
Too much: '800 pages is just too much for you, right?' Paulson said, as Fallon tried to explain the parts of the book he did read, he liked
Fallon added that the parts he read were good, and, 'I really got into it, and I go, the museum and the whole thing, and they go, it's not even about that.'
Paulson admitted that the story, 'is really not about that, and I don't come into it until the part that it's not about that.'
Fallon continued, 'There's like four chapters about the museum. It's not about a museum. So I read four chapters that's not about anything.'
Not about that: Paulson admitted that the story, 'is really not about that, and I don't come into it until the part that it's not about that'
Fallon added that he admitted to giving up and just saying, 'I can't wait for the movie to come out.'
The host said he was going to read the book before the film comes out, with Paulson adding that, 'it's out now.'
Paulson joked that she didn't read it either before making it clear that, 'I love this book and I love this movie. You've gotta see it.'
Out now: The host said he was going to read the book before the film comes out, with Paulson adding that, 'it's out now'
Fallon dug himself into a deeper hole by saying that the Goldfinch is a bird, with Paulson correcting him by saying, 'The Goldfinch is a famous painting that hangs in The Met.'
When the host tried to salvage the awkward interview even further, saying he didn't want to spoil anything, Paulson said, 'You couldn't possibly spoil it because you don't know what's happening.'
She added that the opening of the book, where a young boy loses his mother, is actually the start of the story, adding, 'which is when you decided to close the book.'
Paulson closed out the interview by stating, 'If you want to see Ansel Elgort and you want to see Nicole Kidman and you want to see Jeffrey Wright from Westworld and you want to see me in a bikini, I think you should see it,' which caused Fallon to cheer.
Fallon apparently isn't the only one confused by The Goldfinch, which received a slew of negative reviews during its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, en route to opening in eighth place in its debut at the box office with just $2.6 million.
Don't know: When the host tried to salvage the awkward interview even further, saying he didn't want to spoil anything, Paulson said, 'You couldn't possibly spoil it because you don't know what's happening'
