But on Monday, it was a much more low-key day for Nicole Richie, 36, Joel Madden, 38, and their kids Harlow, 10, and Sparrow, 8, as the whole family went grocery shopping at Ralphs in Los Angeles.

The onetime BFF of Paris Hilton rugged up against the chilly Californian day with a wool-lined jacket.

The Simple Life star paired the warm brown coat with a gray turtleneck and blue jeans.

Richie's wavy blonde tresses were tied back in a high pony tail and she went makeup free for the shopping outing.

Her Good Charlotte front man husband meanwhile wore a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball cap and a hooded sweatshirt emblazoned with 'MDDN', the name of his music label.

The Voice Australia coach Joel - who with his twin brother Benji also is also part of the imaginatively named band The Madden Brothers - married Nicole in 2010.

They welcomed Harlow in 2008 and Sparrow the following year.

Since January of 2015, Benji has been married to actress Cameron Diaz, whose most recently released movie was the 2014 remake of Annie.

Nicole, who is the adopted daughter of Lionel Richie and the half-sister of 34-year-old Scott Disick's 19-year-old girlfriend Sofia, has claimed she introduced Benji and Cameron.
