Bondi Rescue star Harrison Reid has dedicated 11 years of his life to safeguarding Australia's most famous Bondi Beach.

Now the 29-year-old is encouraging locals to keep it clean for Earth Day 2024.

'It's my backyard down here, and I always try and keep it clean,' he told Daily Mail Australia on Sunday, highlighting the struggle to protect its pristine beauty from rubbish left behind by tourists.

'It absolutely kills me. We want to show this beach off to everyone from around the world. It's one of the biggest tourist hotspots.'

From reuniting lost kids with their parents to witnessing proposals and even funerals, Bondi's seen it all.

'It's a special place for a lot of people,' Reid said.

While Reid adores his job, he dreads the aftermath of the festive season.

'I dread coming to work on Christmas Day, New Year's Day. When it's a lot of people who come down, eat, party, especially the backpackers. It's disgusting with the bottles and everything left behind,' he lamented, urging people to use bins or take their rubbish with them.

Reid has seen all sorts in his time as a lifeguard, but there was one object he spied in the water which really took him by surprise.

'The most unusual item has probably been a sea sack (from Far North Queensland) got stuck down here in the current, so it was pretty interesting,' he recounted.

'It's my backyard down here, and I always try and keep it clean,' he told Daily Mail Australia on Sunday, highlighting the struggle to protect its pristine beauty from rubbish left behind by tourists. Looking back, Reid reckons if he wasn't a lifeguard, he'd still be working with people.

'Definitely be something being involved with people... 90% of being a lifeguard is actually customer service,' he said.

This Earth Day, the message from Reid in a campaign with The Botanist Gin is clear - lets all do our bit and keep the beach looking beaut (and swim between the flags).
