Imagine if you were a young person in London looking for a way to make something of yourself in music, then stumbled into a record store full of fancy kit and computers, which offered reasonable rates for recording. As with many things that seem too good to be true, Boom Box records actually turned out to be a hotbed of criminal activity, and a place that the people interviewed here seem to profoundly regret stepping inside.

If you don't want to know any of the twists to this tale then stop reading now, but we will give away one of the turns - that the 'gangsters' who were running the store were actually undercover police officers who had decided, 21 Jump Street-style, to use Boom Box as a way to trap criminals in the area. However, had the officers not been there in the first place, would the people who found themselves walking through Boom Box's doors have even considered the crimes they feel they were manipulated into by its staff?

Boom Box: Beats And Betrayal tells the whole thorny and extraordinary story and it's a story that, it has to be said, it seems remarkable it was left to a US streamer to tell. It's told through a mix of interviews and reconstructions that are well above the average, helping to pick apart the questionable ethics of it all. (Four episodes)
