2000 Meters To Andriivka: Trailer, certificate and where to watch
Searing, BAFTA-nominated portrait of life on the frontline in Ukraine
Year: 2025
Certificate: 15
Rarely has the experience of war been conveyed as simply and as powerfully as it is in 2000 Meters To Andriivka, a searing documentary portrait of the frontline in Ukraine. Cameras follow a Ukrainian platoon as they fight for every inch of ground across the 2,000 metres of the title, engaged in vicious trench warfare in the hopes of retaking the village of Andriivka from Russian forces.
We hear a lot about the use of drone warfare in Ukraine, which can lead you to think of it as an arm's-length, hi-tech conflict - and drones are used here but this is still very much trench warfare of the kind you could be forgiven for thinking died out in the 20th century. This type of war is very present, though, and very real for the soldiers fighting it here - and, as they reflect in quieter moments, they clearly feel as if there is no end in sight.
And that awful, never-ending feeling is the most powerful message the film leaves you with as the credits roll. (108 minutes)
