Catfishing, where someone assumes a fake identity online most often for dating scams, is so prevalent these days that it pays for all of us to be vigilant. There are countless cases involving catfishing, including Sweet Bobby, and the victims' accounts are all eerily similar. No one wants to admit that they've been duped, but the tactics used are often so sophisticated that red flags are missed or ignored.
This case evolves over many years with multiple victims, many of whom share their experiences here. They are contacted by a dashingly handsome doctor who isn't who he claims to be and some are pulled into the deception more deeply than others.
Former Miss Scotland contestant Abbie Draper was one such target, contacted when her grandfather was admitted to hospital. She, along with many of the other victims, would eventually come together to bring the catfish to account. Something which, with catfishing not a specific crime, took far longer than it perhaps should have done.
Over three episodes, this series also speaks to relatives of the culprit - the UK's most prolific catfish -and while we won't spoil that surprise, it's safe to say that the reveal is a massive shock. (Three episodes)
