Altered Carbon: Trailer, certificate and where to watch
Joel Kinnaman and Anthony Mackie star in a futuristic, Blade Runner-style series
Year: 2018-2020
Certificate: 18
If you've ever wanted to watch a Blade Runner-type TV series, this early and unfairly cancelled show for Netflix - based on a book by Richard K. Morgan - comes pretty darn close. It's set in 2384, a time when bodies are interchangeable 'sleeves', and when a rich man (James Purefoy) puts a long-sleeping criminal into a new body to solve a murder. This hardened investigator goes by Takeshi Kovacs - and is played by For All Mankind's Joel Kinnaman - and what follows is a violent and stylish detective noir, set in an era when technology has changed the rules of humanity.
In the second and final series, Marvel star Anthony Mackie takes over the lead role from Kinnaman, although he's still essentially playing the same character - Kovacs - it's just that the body or 'sleeve' is different. Mackie adds charisma to a show that, in its first run, could be accused of putting looks and ideas ahead of character, and has a nice double act with his AI aide, Poe (Chris Conner). (Two series)
