This five-part thriller from Matt Charman (Treason) stars Suranne Jones as Abigail Dalton, a politically imperilled Prime Minister thrown headlong into a dangerous situation when her husband is taken hostage. The French President Vivienne Toussaint (Julie Delpy) happens to be in the UK for a negotiation as this crisis hits, but can Dalton trust Toussaint to help, considering how thorny things are between them politically? And then there's Dalton's daughter, who doesn't seem to understand there are times when her mum just can't be interrupted...
That's all we'll tell you about Hostage for now, because it's the kind of twisty show you won't want to know too much about before watching. Suffice to say, the way both Dalton and Toussaint deal with the personal and the political fallout as the show goes on is pacey and fascinating to watch, and the scenes between Jones and Delpy are very strong indeed. Delpy, in particular, is a magnetic screen presence - she is a double Oscar nominee, after all... (Five episodes)
