Lego Masters USA: Trailer, certificate and where to watch
Good-hearted creative building contest hosted by Will Arnett
Year: 2020-
Certificate: pg
The American version of the Lego building contest unfolds between teams of two, with $100,000 as the prize. Will Arnett, who provided the husky voice of Batman in the Lego movies, is the show's clownish host, and is joined by professional Lego designers - or 'Brickmasters' - Amy Corbett and Jamie Berard, who judge the teams' efforts. The challenges often include twists and, in series one, highlights include the amusement park (episode one), building real, load-bearing bridges (episode six), stories told by children (episode seven) and Star Wars (episode nine)
It's worth watching if you like a show the whole family can enjoy. Like Bake Off, this is also a contest in which everyone wants each other to do well - tears at elimination time are a regular feature and, when building accidents happen, you can feel the shock and sympathy in the studio. The builds are also technically and artistically stunning and if you like this, seek out the warm Australian version - which is arguably better even than the short-lived British original. (Four series)
