THIS pirate adventure series looks like a niche offering on the surface, but give it a whirl and you may just find it hugely entertaining, much like the Saturday adventure matinees of yore.

Based on one of Japan's top manga comics, One Piece tells the story of the teenage Straw Hat Pirates as they travel the seven seas in search of a legendary treasure called the One Piece, that will enable their captain, the brash, rubber-faced Monkey D Luffy, to become king of all the pirates. Full of monsters, sea battles and swordfights, it's boisterous and immensely fun stuff. All, thankfully, qualities that have survived the jump to live action in this Netflix series.

Adventurous, silly and exciting, and a good option for all-family viewing, it's easily the best pirate adventure to arrive on our screens since the first Pirates Of The Caribbean movie, and series two - which arrived after a near three-year wait - continues the trend for big-budget thrills and silliness. The plot follows our heroes to the Grand Line, the fabled home of the One Piece, and there will be a third series after this. (Two series)
