The Darling Buds Of May: Trailer, certificate and where to watch
Pam Ferris and David Jason star in a perfick adaptation of the novels
Year: 1991-1993
Certificate: pg
The joyous, laugh-a-minute series starring Sir David Jason as the fun-loving Kent farmer Pop Larkin, as opposed to the recent, less successful ITV revival with Bradley Walsh and Joanna Scanlan.
Almost guaranteed to put a smile on your face, it paints a glorious picture of contentment, under the sunny skies of late 1950s Kent, as Pop combines farming with various jobs on the side, lucrative enough to pay for private educations for several of his children, as well as prodigious amounts of food and wine, a swimming pool and regular trips to France.
Pam Ferris plays Ma and - in her breakout role - Catherine Zeta Jones stars as the Larkins' oldest daughter Mariette, a young woman beautiful and persuasive enough to convince tax collector and future husband Charley Charlton (Philip Franks) not to investigate her father's dubious financial affairs. (Three series)
