A Bloody Lucky Day: Trailer, certificate and where to watch
Twisty Korean survival thriller that owes a debt to Tom Cruise's Collateral
Year: 2023
Certificate: 18
Hold onto your hats for this brutally compelling South Korean drama, the premise of which owes a debt to the Tom Cruise movie Collateral. Taxi driver Oh Taek has a lucky dream about pigs, followed by one of those lovely days when everything seems to go right. Then, a customer offers to pay him a premium to drive to the faraway port city of Mokpo. And even then, things still seem to be going fine, until all the joking about stowing away on a ship suddenly gives way to the realisation that the man in Oh Taek's back seat is actually a serial killer.
A twist-filled survival thriller kicks off from that point, one that stays remarkably fresh considering its narrow set-up and ten-episode length. You'll need a strong stomach for some of the more grisly moments (even early on) but this is a sharp, precisely acted piece of work that should keep most audiences guessing. And these days, that's a very impressive feat. (Ten episodes)
