A huge BBC show has been axed from screens this week in a schedule shake-up - and it's set to leave fans livid.

Consequently, it means that another TV programme will be airing in the intended timeslot.

Long-running medical drama Casualty first began in 1986 and is a Saturday night staple.

At present, the show is airing a miniseries titled Learning Curve, with two episodes remaining.

However, Casualty viewers will unfortunately need to wait for longer to see what happens next.

The BBC hit is being taken off air to make way for Big Night of Musicals 2026, by the National Lottery.

Hosted by Jason Manford, the evening celebrates West End shows like Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and Matilda.

Meanwhile, Casualty will be returning to screens on April 11 at 8.30pm.

Earlier this year, The Traitors fans spotted a former contestant pop up in a Casualty episode.

Maddy Smedley - who appeared in the first ever series of the BBC murder mystery show - featured in the medical drama's first episode of 2026.

She portrayed a patient who sustained severe burns after falling asleep in the sun.

Announcing the role on X Maddy said: 'Meet Bethany Chimes tonight on Casualty at 8:45pm BBC 1 or on iplayer now - she's addicted to a sun tan cos she's lonely.

'Sad story really and hope it raises awareness of melanoma and how bad the sun can really be. @bbccasualtyofficial #casualty love working again at casualty x.'

Many watching the episode this week were quick to notice that it was Maddy as one penned on X: 'Maddy from #TheTraitors on #Casualty!',

Another added: 'Good to see Maddy in #casualty from series 1 #TraitorsUK #traitors @the_traitors_',

A third said: 'As if I'm watching it now and I said to my friend 'IS THAT MADDY OFF THE TRAITORS' how fun to see you girlie.'

Maddy was a big star of series one as she was one of the few Faithfuls to correctly suspect Wilf Webster of being a Traitor.

However, she was sadly banished in the penultimate episode before being able to see her theory proven right.

Since she has found further fame on soaps and other TV shows - playing the role of Faye Fuller in Hollyoaks, Sally in Big Boys and Dilys Shaughnessy in two episodes of Call the Midwife.

It comes as a fellow hit BBC show - Death in Paradise - had its series 15 finale pulled from screens in a blow to fans.

Viewers have seen DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) face his fair share of drama - including reuniting with long-lost half brother Solomon Clarke (Daniel Ward).

The penultimate episode ended on an intriguing cliffhanger, with Mervin's niece Eloise unexpectedly turning up on his doorstep.

Although fans of the crime drama have had to unfortunately wait a little longer to see how this plays out.

The final installment was replaced by the annual Comic Relief fundraising special.

The charity event featured stars including Davina McCall and Joel Dommett, as well as shows including The Traitors and Amandaland.

It means the Death in Paradise episode will instead arrive on BBC One on Friday, March 27.

Earlier in series 15, an episode was broadcast on BBC One on Monday, February 16, rather than its usual Friday primetime slot.

The FA Cup match between Chelsea and Hull was broadcast on the Friday (February 13) in its place.
