The creators of Heated Rivalry and Ozark have teamed up for a 'ruthless' new Netflix period drama full of 'forbidden love and brutal war'.

A new show called Alexander, which will be based on Annabel Lyon's 2010 book The Golden Mean, will hit the streaming service in the future.

Actor, director and screenwriter Jacob Tierney, who was assistant director of Heated Rivalry, will be joining forces with Ozark's Marty Byrde star Jason Bateman for the new 'period piece that explores the little-known story of Alexander the Great and his tutor, Aristotle'.

Award-winning actor Jason has appeared in the likes of Arrested Development, Ozark, Game Night and Juno.

He also produced and directed a number of episodes of Ozark.

The star has also directed a number of films including Bad Words, Significant Other, The Family Fang and The Girls I've Been.

Over the years Jacob has starred in the likes of Twist, The Trotsky, Good Neighbours and Preggoland.

He's also co-created, written, directed and produced Letterkenny.

The pair will work alongside Brendan Brady to complete the series.

Jacob said of their upcoming project: 'I fell in love with Annabel Lyon’s book years ago and have been dreaming of telling this story ever since.

'Brendan and I couldn’t be more excited to be partnering with Aggregate and Netflix to bring this insanely compelling world to life.'

Head of US and Canada scripted series at Netflix, Jinny Howe, added: 'Jacob Tierney is one of the most exciting, in-demand creative voices working today, and we are thrilled to work with him on Alexander.

'We were immediately captivated by his vision for adapting Annabel Lyon’s acclaimed novel.

'This series reimagines the classic power struggle between mentor and protégé with a raw, modern energy that feels both epic and incredibly intimate.

'This high-stakes drama is poised to deeply resonate with our global audience, and we look forward to bringing it to life with the deftly talented Jason Bateman and the Aggregate Films team.'

The story follows Aristotle and what he gets up to while tutoring a young price called Alexander.

'Amid palace intrigue, forbidden love, brutal war and ruthless ambitions, their unlikely friendship shapes an empire and alters the course of history,' Netflix states.

It comes after it was revealed that Heated Rivalry is set to return 'as soon as humanly possible' as the show's producers revealed that the highly anticipated second season will soon begin filming.

The gay ice hockey drama captivated audiences around the world following its release earlier this year, leaving fans begging for more.

Now, viewers can rest knowing that more sizzling episodes are on the way, with Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams returning as Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander.

Show boss Jacob confirmed filming for the second series of the show will be starting in just a matter of months, as he appeared on chat show CBS Mornings with Gayle King

The showrunner explained that behind-the-scenes, script writing has been taking place and there are plans to start shooting in August.

It means that the Canadian series could make its return to screens as early as April 2027.

Jacob explained: 'There will be more Heated Rivalry on your TVs, like, truly, as soon as humanly possible.'

Executive producer Brendan Brady, who appeared alongside Jacob on the American talkshow, encouraged fans to 'enjoy the yearn' of waiting for series two.
