Netflix fans have been left overjoyed as a crime drama series with a perfect score from critics has finally arrived - and is already rocketing up the most-watched charts. 

Western series Dark Winds, which is based on the Leaphorn & Chee novels from Tony Hillerman, was an instant hit on its first release in 2022. 

The series, which first launched in America, managed to achieve a rare perfect 100 on reviews site Rotten Tomatoes, from both seasoned and at-home critics. 

It follows three Navajo Tribal Police officers in 1971, Zahn McClarnon's Joe Leaphorn, Jessica Matten's Bernadette Manuelito and Kiowa Gordon's Jim Chee. 

In the show, which features Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin as an executive producer, much of the action follows the trio investigating crimes in the American Southwest. 

Now, years after its first release, the first series of Dark Winds has finally become available to watch in the UK, quickly climbing to the No. 3 spot in the streaming service's coveted charts.

Already its racking up even more positive reviews, with high praise from viewers. 

One penned: 'It is a knotty, atmospheric mystery that still feels fleet enough to be tackled in one or two binges,' as another agreed: 'Becomes easily absorbing and is already gripping... It's a must-watch.'

A third chimed in: 'Dark Winds is never edge-of-your-seat stuff, the series instead is cooking at a satisfying simmer.' 

Another added on Twitter: 'Dark Winds is a really good show! Can't remember the last time I was this excited to get home and continue a binge watch.' 

Someone else wrote: 'Dark Winds is what True Detective was supposed to be. Great show.' 

Time Magazine's critic Judy Berman added: 'Gripping, gorgeously shot and propelled by superb performances, Dark Winds is a very good show that also happens to be very important.'

And Rolling Stone's Alan Sepinwall wrote: 'A gripping, pulpy drama with a tangible sense throughout that the people telling this story know what is distinct about it, elevating the more familiar thriller components into something that feels special.' 

Fans are in luck as the gritty thriller has been renewed for a third season, with a current target release date of early 2025.

Set in 1971 on on a remote outpost of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley, the, story follows Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and his Navajo Tribal Police deputies as they investigate a series of crimes

The exciting announcement was revealed last year by Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks.

He said: 'We started this journey with very high hopes for this series, given the remarkable source material and extraordinary creative team behind it, and it has delivered on every level.

'From the beloved novels, to an incredibly collaborative producing team that includes Robert Redford, George R. R. Martin, showrunner John Wirth and star Zahn McClarnon, to the entire cast and crew, there is so much storytelling yet to come in this universe. 

'Thanks to the fans for embracing this series and the critics for celebrating and shining a light on it.'
