Amazon wins Black Friday weekend with 31 per cent of all sales
- Slice Intelligence published a report showing the sales shares for Black Friday through Cyber Monday
- Amazon accounted for the largest shares at 30.9 per cent, followed by Best Buy at 7.4 per cent and Target at 4.4 per cent
- Another report states that in five years, one-fifth of America's retail market will be online and Amazon is set to capture two-thirds of that
Black Friday weekend was a boon for all retailers - but Amazon especially.
The online retailer accounted for 30.9 per cent of all sales from Black Friday to Cyber Monday, according to a report from Slice Intelligence. The company says it was there best sales weekend ever.
Following Amazon in the rankings were Best Buy with 7.4 per cent of sales, Target with 4.4 per cent and Walmart with 4.1 per cent.
Best Buy made the biggest improvement this year, upping their sales 1.3 point from 2015.
Black Friday weekend was a boon for all retailers - but Amazon especially which saw a 30 per cent sales boost
Walmart, which says it saw a record number of visits to its site this past weekend, dipped in the rankings this year, recording 1 per cent less sales over last year.
Macy's also dipped down the rankings, after experiencing a massive site outage for most of Black Friday.
This comes as another report forecasts that Amazon will grow incredibly in the next five years, as one-fifth of america's $3.6trillion retail market shifts online.
The Institute for Local Self Reliance says that Amazon is on track to sweep up two-thirds of that market.
'Behind the packages on the doorstep, and behind the inviting interface and seamless service that has consistently put the company at the top of corporate reputation rankings, Amazon has quietly positioned itself at the center of a growing share of our daily activities and transactions , extending its tentacles across our economy, and with it, our lives,' the report reads.
Amazon has also been out-performing other retailers throughout the year
