Wife of GOP Rep. Jim Baird dies due to injuries suffered in tragic car wreck
Longtime Indiana Congressman Jim Baird's wife Danise has died over a month after their vehicle was struck in a car accident.
A spokesperson for Baird, who has been in Congress since 2018, wrote that Danise died 'following complications from injuries' sustained in the early January crash.
'Congressman Baird and Danise were married for 59 years, building a life centered on faith, family, and service,' they said.
'A devoted wife and loving mother of three, she was the foundation of their family and will be deeply missed. We ask that you keep the Congressman and his family in your prayers during this difficult time.'
Several of Baird's colleagues in Congress mourned the passing of the Indiana representative's wife.
'Jim’s wife Danise was often by his side as he worked so hard in Congress on behalf of his constituents,' wrote New York's Elise Stefanik.
'They are salt of the earth people and Jim and his family have sacrificed so much for our country.'
'Our sympathies and condolences to Jim and his family. We admire them both and their 59 years of marriage,' added Don Bacon of Nebraska.

'I enjoyed getting to know Danise, and we’ll hold Jim in our prayers.'
Few details about the accident are known, though Donald Trump said at the time that the crash was 'pretty bad.'
'They're going to be okay, but they had a pretty bad accident, and we're praying that they get out of that hospital very quickly,' Trump said while speaking to House GOP members at a retreat at the Kennedy Center.
'He's going to be fine. She's going to be fine.'
The president has yet to comment on Baird's passing. The Daily Mail has reached out to the White House for comment.
Baird, who represents the 4th Congressional District in west central Indiana, was first elected to Congress in 2018. He is 80 years old.
News of the accident came as Republicans in DC mourned the death of Republican Doug LaMalfa, a seven-term US representative from California.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War - where he lost his left arm in combat - earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
After serving in the Indiana House of Representatives starting in 2010, he was elected to Congress in 2018.
In 2022, Indiana US Rep. Jackie Walorski, a Republican, was killed in a head-on vehicle collision in her northern Indiana district.
Two of her staffers traveling with her and the woman driving the other vehicle also died.
