It's the unashamedly bogan festival celebrating Australians' love affair with cars - four days of high-octane mayhem staged in the nation's capital under a blistering sun.
Between the end of the more sedate Ashes cricket series and the start of the Australian Open tennis sits the annual Summernats spectacle in Canberra.
This year's edition attracted about 130,000 attendees and a record 3,000 entrants to an event which began last Thursday and finished on Sunday. The 38th instalment of Summernats was held in heatwave conditions but organisers proclaimed it a success, despite a brawl which saw several patrons evicted.
The country's biggest car festival began with the City Cruise down Northbourne Avenue and moved to Exhibition Park for vehicle demonstrations, live music and the famous burnout competitions.
A promotional poster asking, 'You know what's hotter than Summernats?' came with the answer: 'Getting tattooed'. Many of the heavily inked men and women watching the cars had already reached that conclusion.

In the most extreme image, two men wearing speed-dealer sunnies were sprayed black by black, sooty smoke after getting too close to the burnouts.

Among the familiar faces was actor and TV shopping personality Rozz Switzer, who last year became an online adult content creator.
Switzer was working on a Platinum Racing Products stall, selling merchandise including hats, T-shirts and sunglasses.
The real stars of the show were the hotted-up vehicles which fans gathered around to photograph on their phones.
The smell of burnt rubber and exhaust hung over the scene, with spectators in the front row of the burnout course left blackened from head to foot.
A new festival zone offered rides, games and carnival classics for the kids.
Revheads were not put off by temperatures soaring above 35 degrees throughout the extravaganza, with caterers stocking 50,000 Zooper Dooper ice blocks to cool down the crowd.
A breeze hit Exhibition Park on Saturday afternoon, offering the first hint of relief from the heat.
Four vehicles were seized by police in the lead-up to the event, including a 1991 Holden Commodore which was allegedly being used to do burnouts on a highway.

ACT Policing's Mark Steel had warned festivalgoers that anti-social conduct would not be tolerated.
'Our message is pretty simple - have an enjoyable event, but just know that anti-social behaviour and dangerous driving will result in police action,' he told reporters on Thursday.
A brawl in the Burnout Stand had to be broken up on Saturday.
'Security and police intervened and all involved parties were removed from the event and have had accreditations removed,' ACT Policing said in a statement.
Summernats co-owner and managing director Andy Lopez said the fight started as a verbal disagreement between members of the audience.
'As per our protocols, there was a security and police response to defuse the incident and a number of patrons were ejected,' he said.
The Summernats heat of MulletFest, in which adults and children compete for sporting the best mullets, was forced indoors due to wild and windy weather.
Adult grand champion Migelly Shaw will contest the national finals of MulletFest at Kurri Kurri, in the NSW Hunter Valley, in December.

The Summernats grand champion was also announced on Saturday, a day earlier than usual, with Adam Bickerstaff's 1956 Ford F100, built by Viking Hotrods at Bomaderry, taking the honours.
Chris Orchard won the Pro Burnout Series, driving away with $50,000.
News also came that Summernats would for the first time cross the Tasman for a New Zealand version in February 2027.
It had previously been announced Summernats USA would take place in March in Florida at the Freedom Factory and the neighbouring Bradenton Motorsports Park.
'We have announced Summernats's second international event,' Mr Lopez revealed.
'So we're in the USA in March, and we're going to be in Hamilton at Mystery Creek.
'It's a 10-year dream that's coming true and we're really excited.'
The New Zealand event will see Summernats partner with Out There Productions and local promoter Azhar Bhamji's company Premier Events NZ.
'Azhar and I have been talking about doing something in New Zealand since 2017,' Mr Lopez said.
'It really gained momentum in the last six to twelve months. We've got the perfect venue at Mystery Creek that's four minutes from Hamilton airport, with direct flights from Sydney, the Gold Coast and other Aussie cities.
'It's got a huge exhibition space, a cruise route and we're going to do Skid Row.
'We'll have burnouts, show cars, concerts - we're going to make it the proper Summernats experience, built especially for Kiwis.'
