A brazen gang of thieves were caught on CCTV spending more than an hour breaking into a charity's headquarters before stealing its food truck.

The charity, Oasis Cardiff, has said it does not have the money to replace the truck stolen from its base in the Welsh capital after being targeted.

The trailer is used for festivals and events to serve food and to provide information on how the charity supports refugees and asylum seekers.

The footage shows the two people entering the gates of the premises before they then walk away.

It then shows the trailer being attached to a Land Rover and then driving away.

Charity CEO Susie Ventris-Field, said: 'A colleague came onto site on Sunday morning and noticed that the trailer was not there. They checked with one of the managers, who confirmed that it wasn't in service.

'We checked our CCTV footage and could see that it had been stolen in the early hours of Saturday April 5, I think about 1am.

'It took them about an hour to break through our gates - as we have chains and good security on them - and then they towed it with what looked like a Land Rover from our CCTV footage.

'It looked like it took a lot of effort and wasn't some spontaneous decision.'

Oasis says it has helped hundreds of people who have fled war or political persecution from places including Syria, Eritrea, Sudan, Afghanistan, Kurdistan, Albania, Libya and Iraq.

Ventris-Field said the theft was a real blow to the charity's income.

She said: 'We are coming into the time of year when our food trailer would be going out to events, weddings and festivals.

'It's a double whammy because we don't have the kind of income source that the trailer provides, as we try to figure out what's next.

'As well as the financial side of it, it means a lot to the staff and volunteers who work on it, and the wider charity - it's been a bit of a staple of Oasis, an opportunity for us to make really good connections with not just local communities but communities across Wales.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: 'We can confirm we are investigating the theft of the trailer. Anyone with information or CCTV is asked to please contact South Wales Police quoting reference 2500107248.'
