The ill-fated zodiac signs facing turmoil on Valentine's Day... as well as those that will be luckier in love

Love it or hate it, when Valentine's Day comes around we all find ourselves under pressure to examine our love lives.

For those who have been wounded or are weary of romance it can be hard to muster up much enthusiasm, sometimes it feels the only way through is to declare how little we care about the day, or else to perform extravagant displays of affection.

A glance at the stars can help us find our way through this tricky time of year and provide a hint of what might be in store for you and your love life in 2026.

This Valentine's Day Venus, planet of love is in idealistic Pisces, and connecting positively to Jupiter, the planet of good fortune, which currently sits in caring Cancer. This creates an atmosphere ripe for romance.

With Pisces influence we may all feel somewhat inclined towards sentimentality, but Jupiter counters this with its wise and generous presence in Cancer, the sign of nurture and caregiving.

As Jupiter is currently retrograde, we are encouraged to reflect on how we take care of our own needs first before we tend to others, an important reminder that without a healthy, kind relationship with ourselves we cannot form lasting loving connections to others.

Jupiter's retrograde presence is amplifying romantic connections for the water signs of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces, who can expect a flood of love and adoration. Romantically it's looking positive for Sagittarians too.

The most generous sign of the zodiac, Sagittarians can expect to receive real nurturing, showing all the fire signs that slowing down can deepen desire in 2026.

On the 14th of February this year, Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn and co-ruler of Aquarius, enters the exciting Mars, ruling sign of Aries. Neptune, which represents Venus in her higher form, and our deeper feelings about desire and romance isn't far behind.

These two planets conjoin in the first fire sign of the Zodiac on the 20th of February. This once in a lifetime event pushes us forward into a new era of relationships where a fresh approach is ready to be pioneered.

This year promises to bring the start of a pivotal shift in how we relate to one another and approach romantic encounters. People are ready to redefine what they want and expect in 2026 in terms of connection and partnership.

Saturn is the karmic teacher of the cosmos and, as it enters the first sign of the Zodiac there is a pull to get back to the drawing board and make things right. Signs likely to be experiencing this most intensely are the Fire signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius and air sign Libra.

They are ready to get real about what they need and they won't be afraid to speak up about their feelings in 2026. The cycle of life teaches us that for something worthwhile to begin, whatever is holding us back must end. What is being let go of and released this year is for our greater good.

Mercury, messenger and ruler of communication is now in Pisces and slowing to an upcoming retrograde.

That means that, although feelings expressed on the day might be real in the moment, emotions are about to enter a period of deep review and reflection. Confusing situationships are ready to be clarified.

The Moon meanwhile is in Capricorn and on Valentine's Day, connects to rebellious Uranus in Taurus.

Traditional ways of relating may be surprisingly appealing. Both earth signs will feel especially inclined to share their feelings and make declarations that impact long term commitments and should prepare for some unexpected and exciting connections.

Mars, the hot-headed planetary ruler of sex, currently sits in Leo's opposite sign of Aquarius. Arguments may lead to irrevocable truth being told and ultimately to clear, unequivocal action being taken.

This doesn't necessarily mean heartbreak though. It is a call for finding greater clarity and a more honest way of expressing feelings. Ultimately this can work better for everybody, but any process of change inevitably includes moments of discomfort.

Just a few days after Valentine's Day, on the 17th of February, there is a Solar Eclipse in Aquarius which brings huge revelations and change.

Virgos and Pisceans have been through the relational wringer in recent years, and these signs finally feel some reprieve from the 14th of February. Pisceans can expect to start exercising the lessons they have learned over the last few years about identity and boundaries which prepares the way for more secure relationships.

Both of these signs are understanding that sacrifice is not the same as strength. Virgos finally catch a break in relationships which have lost their direction or become stagnated.

They can expect significant transformation in their relationship status this year, but things may feel more intense and complicated before they are ironed out but the trajectory points to greater clarity and a fresh start.

February's astrology includes intense eclipses and retrograde periods. The celestial events this month will put pressure on any connection built more on fantasy than reality.

Communication is key. Hard conversations will be difficult to avoid and those who run from vulnerability or dismiss emotional depth find themselves at a reckoning point which means that Sagittarians, Virgos, Pisceans and Geminis need to take a long look in the mirror when it comes to seeing what lessons need to be learned to find meaningful connection.

No matter what sign a person is born under, love and relationships require real work. Authenticity and self-awareness are essential for healthy connections this year.

There is an abundance of beautiful opportunities for connection for everybody this year and, with Jupiter moving into warm hearted, loyal Leo from June, there is more than enough love to go around.

The most magnetic relationships will be those rooted in truth, courage and ongoing conversation. Uranus moving into communicative Gemini awakens us to the reality that there can be no chemistry without communication.

Compatibility is never a perfect science but this year real connections will grow in extraordinary and unexpected places.
