There was a time when supermarket clothing aisles could only be relied on for affordable basics: think a multi-pack of socks, plain cotton underwear or a T-shirt.
Practicality, rather than style, was the order of the day in the collections you could find at Asda, Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury’s.
But fast-forward to autumn 2025 and the big four have seriously stepped up their sartorial game, with designer-inspired pieces that look expensive, but are a steal compared to High Street prices.
Here’s my guide to finding a covetable, supremely flattering autumn wardrobe while doing your weekly shop . . .
George at ASDA

Among her picks are a burgundy checked funnel- neck jumper (£22.50) that’s perfect for layering. These denim, side-stripe trousers have a similar sporty chic feel to ME+EM designs (that start from £195) but are just £16, nearly half the price of a pair from Marks & Spencer.
Trench coats are a failsafe option and this belted version (£38) has a hood – the ideal way to look super stylish in a surprise downpour.
Tu at Sainsbury's
Tu’s autumn collection nails corporate chic that’s not too formal
For those already missing their summer floral dresses as essential workwear, Tu’s autumn collection nails corporate chic that’s not too formal.
If you love ultra-cool label Aligne’s high-neck waistcoats (from £119) and blazers (from £99), this set from Tu has the same shape and will only set you back £54.50 for the pair.
Complete the look with a dogtooth funnel-neck coat – the perfect blend of function and fashion.
Other standout pieces include a ruffled lace-edge blouse (£26) that looks like it could have come straight from the Chloe catwalk. And these patent, heeled boots (£38, above right) will come in handy on a drizzly day.
F&F at Tesco
F&F has drawn inspiration for its new collection from Burberry’s A/W 2025 offering, creating pieces in a similarly muted palette
If you’re a fan of Burberry, but not the couture prices, Tesco (yes, really) is the place to go.

This argyle knit jumper (£27.50) and checked skirt (£19.50) deliver catwalk chic for less.
A hardworking jacket is an autumn essential, but even High Street coats can set you back hundreds.
The solution? F&F’s bomber jacket – now just £22 in a neutral tone that will go with everything.
If you’ve lusted after Khaite’s studded bags, this brown version for only £28 (rather than £2,480) is a must-have too.
Nutmeg at Morrisons
This year,Morrisons' offering, Nutmeg, takes the supermarket knitwear crown with elevated, thoughtful designs
The smallest range out of all the supermarkets, Morrisons’ offering, Nutmeg, is only available to shop in-store rather than online.
This year, it takes the supermarket knitwear crown, with elevated, thoughtful designs. This stitch-detailed cardigan (£18) is the hero piece, with contrasting tortoiseshell buttons to add oomph. Perfect for autumn, their chocolate brown wide-leg jeans (£20) are a steal.
And if you need a piece to take you between seasons, this green paisley midi dress (£22) can be styled with tights and boots for autumn, and sandals for spring.
