Eight-year-old fashion prodigy and social media sensation Max Alexander designs first limited-edition garment to be produced and sold

  • 'It took eight months to make because he wanted every detail to be exactly like his design,' his mother tells Daily Mail

Max Alexander, an 8-year-old fashion prodigy that holds the Guinness World Record for Youngest Runway Fashion Designer, has just created his first produced garment.

His mother, Sherri Madison, tells Daily Mail that only 300 pieces will be made of this design.

'He was very particular about the vest, it took eight months to make because he wanted every detail to be exactly like his design,' she said.

The incredibly soft, plush brown vest features a standing collar and beaded angel wings across the back. It will be available for pre-order in October.

Max recently showcased the piece during New York Fashion Week at a special meet-and-greet for fans and media at the Conrad New York Downtown.

'Pretty and cool' is how the young superstar describes his designs to Daily Mail.

Along with the vest were several other impressive designs on display, including two gowns made of burlap coffee bean sacks.

The first dress, made of a traditional brown sack, features 3/4 sleeves and an asymmetrical hem with a fringe trim.

The other frock is mint green, sleeveless, and boasts an A-line silhouette.

Behind a black velvet rope stood a colorful gown embellished with silk 3-D flowers.

'This is my favorite,' said Max about the mind-blowing piece. 'It's made out of a recycled wedding dress and the flowers are from M&S Schmalberg a flower company that's really old.'

Another dress was made entirely of recycled ties, with several spread out like a fan at the bodice and many weaved together to form a skirt.

For the special event, the adorable designer donned a light grey short suit and a white button-down shirt. He accessorized with a Gucci necklace and sandals by the Italian label.

Attendees received swag bags which included a 'Max Alexander' t-shirt.

Max's  journey began at just 4 years old when he declared that he was a dressmaker and needed a mannequin.

Despite having no formal fashion training at the time, Max soon began sewing, and at the age of 5 began taking sewing classes.

Committed to his craft, he spends hours sketching, designing, and sewing, and his ability to produce couture-level work has impressed experienced designers and celebrities alike.

Sharon Stone and Deborah Messing have both commissioned jackets from him.

His Instagram account couture.to.the.max has amassed a whopping 3.1 million followers.

His first runway show took place in Los Angeles, California, in the summer of 2021.

This season, he was spotted sitting front row at several New York Fashion Week shows with his mentor and NYFW creator Fern Mallis, including eveningwear brand Pamella Roland.

'I feel happy and excited when watching fashion shows,' he told Daily Mail.

Max predicts he'll show a collection at New York Fashion Week by age 10 or 12.

We believe him.
