A seriously baffling question on The 1% Club knocked four players out and forced thirteen to admit defeat and use their pass - but are you smart enough to answer it in just 30 seconds?

The popular quiz show aims to find the top 1% of players by asking them a series of increasingly difficult questions.

While the questions earlier in the game are meant to be easier, this particular example is proof that this is not always the case.

The question featured a graphic of three couples on a date and read: 'Three couples are out on a date. No one is sitting next to or directly opposite their date.

'Arran tells Nick's date that he likes her shoes. Who is David's date?'

As the clock ticked down on the show, a whopping 13 people made the executive decision to use their pass.

Meanwhile, four of those brave enough to answer ended up being wrong.

Revealing the answer to the difficult question, Lee said: 'Given that no one can sit next to or opposite their date and we know from the question that Arran can't be Nick's date.

'Nick and Charlotte must be a couple. Therefore, Hayley must be Arran's date and Janice must be David's date.

'Therefore the answer is Janice.'

He was clearly baffled too and admitted: 'It's great when you read them out and you still don’t understand the answer.'

It comes after a player recently lost out on a £96,000 prize pot after passing on an extremely difficult calendar question.

Just one player was still in the running for the final question, Rebecca, but she wasn't brave enough to risk her guaranteed prize of £10,000 to scoop the show's jackpot

Just one player was still in the running for the final question, Rebecca, but she wasn't brave enough to risk her guaranteed prize of £10,000 to scoop the show's jackpot

The difficult question read: 'On their first date Noah and Evie discovered they were both born in the same year, 2001, and in the same month May.

'Evie asked Noah on what date in May he was born and their conversation is shown below. What is Evie’s date of birth?'

The conversation began with Noah saying: 'If you add the two digits in the date together you get 11.'

In response, Evie replies: 'In that case I am exactly four weeks older than you.'

At this point in the game, there was just one player left, Rebecca, and she told host Lee Mack that when she plays along at home, she typically only gets the one percent question right fifty percent of the time.

With so much money at stake and unsure of the answer, she decided to play it safe and walk away with the guaranteed £10,000 for reaching the final.

Lee went on to reveal that Rebecca's instinct was correct and the correct answer was, in fact, May 1 - exactly 29 days earlier than her guess.

Needless to say, Rebecca looked visibly overcome with relief that she hadn't decided to risk the £10,000 and all the progress she has made in the game.

The 1% Club airs Saturday nights on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
