British Airways crew member rushed to hospital on landing at Gatwick after noting an 'unusual odour' after take-off

British Airways crew member has been reportedly rushed to hospital from Gatwick Airport.

Flight BA2204 landed at the London hub after travelling from Punta Cana on Wednesday, January 4.

When the plane set off, an 'unusual odour' was noticed by passengers and crew, according to Aviation A2Z.

Some crew members reportedly began to feel unwell during the long-haul journey and displayed symptoms such as nausea.

The bad smell came from the back of the plane.

On arrival at Gatwick, one worker is said to have been taken to hospital as a precaution.

Meanwhile, others who were impacted by the smell did not require medical assistance.

The plane was inspected after it landed but it has not yet been confirmed what caused the odour.

'There were fears that the stewardess was ill due to carbon monoxide poisoning. It was a real worry.'

'The health and wellbeing of our customers and crew is our top priority and we are looking into what happened.'

It comes after an American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Los Angeles when passengers reported feeling sick from an odour that had filled the aircraft.

The plane took off from Los Angeles International Airport at 5pm local time on October 14, and was headed to JFK International Airport in New York when a 'strong smell' was reported only minutes into the flight.

Several passengers complained of feeling ill from fumes that had entered the cabin.

Meanwhile, pilots resorted to fitting oxygen masks after reporting to the control tower that they had smelt and tasted 'something' in the cockpit.
