New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel celebrated a game-sealing sack just a bit too hard.

The Patriots booked their first trip to the AFC Divisional round since the 2018 season with a victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Of all the reasons for the victory, New England's heavy pass rush disrupted Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert and stopped the Los Angeles offense time and time again.

The Chargers only managed to score three points on the night, but the Patriots allowed them to march down the field to be victims of their own ambition.

On the final offensive play of the game for LA, Patriots pass rusher Milton Williams sacked Herbert in what was the quarterback's sixth sack on the night.

Williams ran to the sideline and found Vrabel there to celebrate with him. The only problem? Vrabel's face smacked against Williams' helmet - giving the coach a bloody lip.

NBC cameras caught an assistant coming over to help clean some blood off the coach while other shots saw Vrabel nursing his busted lip.

After the game, Vrabel was asked about his 'war wound' in the press conference.

'Well, we talked to them about being willing to spill some blood out there, and that the big dogs come out in January. And I think Milt took that to heart,' Vrabel told reporters.

'And the way he played the game and the way he finished the game, and he came over and got me pretty good. But that’s what happens.'

As for the player's perspective?

'I was turnt,' Williams told reporters. 'I forgot he didn't have a helmet on.'

Williams was responsible for two of the six sacks the Patriots had on Herbert in what was a rough evening for the veteran passer.

New England's win sets them up with a Divisional round home game against either the Houston Texans or the Pittsburgh Steelers.
