Jose Mourinho admitted he is 'waiting for news' as Gedson Fernandes prepares to undergo his medical at Tottenham.

The Benfica midfielder is set to join Spurs on an 18-month loan deal and become the first signing of Mourinho's tenure at the club.

When asked about the signing and further business in the transfer window, the manager gave little away.

He said: 'I am waiting for news. News can come or not. I’m more worried about Middlesbrough than the market.

'Even if you get a player you cannot play him in a replay. So in this moment I’m not interested in Gedson or any kind of player.'

If Fernandes completes his deal the club will have the chance to make the deal permanent. He has hardly played for Benfica recently amid reports of a fallout with manager Bruno Lage.

But the Portuguese side's loss could be Tottenham's gain, although he will not be eligible to play in Tuesday's FA Cup replay against Middlesbrough.
