Driver KILLED at southern border after racing through Texas checkpoint
A man has been killed amid a shootout with immigration officials after he tried to race through a US Border Patrol checkpoint at the Texas border.
The driver was shot dead at the Sierra Blanca checkpoint in the Big Bend Sector on Wednesday after he fired at officers, the outlet said.
He was trying to flee a Border Patrol checkpoint down Interstate 10, Fox News reporter Brooke Taylor wrote on X. This caused authorities to chase him down using vehicles and a helicopter, CNN said.
The man allegedly crashed his car after Culberson County Sheriff's deputies performed a pit maneuver, CNN reported.
When law enforcement asked him to exit the vehicle, the man began firing. Agents returned fire and killed him, Taylor said.
The shooting involved Border Patrol agents and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, Fox News first reported. It is unclear what agency fired the fatal shot.
It's unclear which agency fired the fatal shot. The man involved has not yet been named.
The Daily Mail has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for comment.

It comes after DHS Secretary Kristi Noem was grilled by the House of Representatives on the leadership of her agency this week after it was rocked by several scandals.
Controversy has followed Noem over her use of taxpayer-funded private jets to travel across the country with Corey Lewandowski.
The Daily Mail has reported that Lewandowski is both her lover and the man effectively running her department.
Noem and Lewandowski, both married, have denied the romantic relationship.
Noem's husband, Bryon, the father of their three children, sat directly behind her throughout her House grilling, stone-faced, as the questions about Lewandowski kept coming.
Her decision to appear alongside Bryon was a calculated play on 'optics' as rumors continue to swirl about their marriage, a DHS source told the Daily Mail.
'The fact she's bringing her family to these events instead of the usual Lewandowski tells me she's aware of how she looks in the media and that she's trying to get the news cycles about her and Lewandowski behind her,' the official said.

Noem's use of a luxury private jet has alarmed senior Republicans.
ICE, which falls under her jurisdiction, has leased a $70 million Boeing for months.
The mother-of-three, 54, has also empowered Lewandowski to approve six-figure government contracts.
