A hot rotisserie chicken is a staple supermarket item for many Aussie households. But which of the major supermarkets do customers rate as having the best roast chook?
Whether you like to call it a roast chicken, BBQ chicken or even a bachelor's handbag, Canstar Blue recently revealed which Australian supermarket sells the top-rated rotisserie chicken.
In the hotly contested category, the 2026 Most Satisfied Customer Award for Rotisserie Chicken went to IGA.
The independent supermarket chain claimed first place with their Hot BBQ Chicken, $12, after receiving strong ratings across the key customer satisfaction categories.
IGA's win in this category was a huge coup, as it saw them unseat Costco, which up until now had enjoyed a five-year winning streak in the Rotisserie Chicken category for its Kirkland Signature Rotisserie Chicken, $7.99.
The mega wholesale supermarket chain trailed closely behind in second, earning five stars in all categories, but being let down by a three-star rating in the 'Taste' category.
Meanwhile, the 'big two' Australian supermarkets rounded out the top four. Woolworths pipped its rival for third place, while Coles took out fourth position.
The two supermarkets had identical star-ratings in every category, except for taste. Woolworths scored a four star rating while Coles was marked three stars.
IGA's Hot BBQ Chicken ($12) was recently named the winner of the 2026 Most Satisfied Customer Award for Rotisserie Chicken
An IGA spokesperson told Daily Mail that they were 'excited about this recognition'. A Canstar spokesperson explained that IGA's Hot BBQ Chicken rated highly 'across all categories'
To determine the winners, Canstar surveyed more than 1,900 Australians who'd recently purchased a hot roast chook. Canstar.com.au spokesperson Eden Radford explained the attributes that saw IGA come out on top.
'Aussies rated supermarkets' roast chickens on taste, value for money, freshness, and packaging, with IGA earning Canstar's Most Satisfied Customers Award thanks to high ratings across all categories, demonstrating a strong performance when it comes to customer satisfaction,' Eden explained.
'With nearly a quarter of Aussies picking up a hot chook as part of their regular shop, it's a category where expectations are high, and loyalty is hard-won.'
An IGA spokesperson told Daily Mail they were very 'excited about this recognition'.
'The Rotisserie Chicken has been a longtime IGA shopper favourite, which is no surprise as it's a tasty, convenient, and great value meal,' the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson proudly championed that they had been recognised in the awards with 'five stars for overall satisfaction and taste, and four stars for freshness, value for money and packaging', explaining that this 'reflects the care we put into every chicken we prepare'.
'Our shoppers love knowing that they can pick up a delicious, high quality, and easy meal solution that is great value,' they added.
'Our stores are so excited about this recognition, and we'd like to say a big thanks to our local shoppers for voting us as number one!'

The recent Canstar survey not only determined the winner, but also revealed some interesting statistics about how Aussies use and enjoy their BBQ chickens.
The research found that almost a quarter (23%) of shoppers popped a BBQ chook in their trolley during a regular grocery shop.
It was also confirmed as a popular item to bring to family parties or gatherings, with 25 per cent of those surveyed saying they purchase one for that very reason.
'Whether for dinner, a party, or a quick shortcut to a delicious snack, a hot roast chicken from the supermarket is one of Australia's most-loved convenience foods - and with competing options, standing out and winning an award for customer satisfaction is no small feat,' noted the Canstar spokesperson.
Another interesting finding related to the hot chicken stuffing - with a quarter of respondents revealing they simply throw it out.
And hilariously, a cheeky 11 percent of Gen-Z respondents admitted they'd even tried to pass off a supermarket roast chicken as their own cooking!
Aussie store-bought hot roast bagged chickens recently became the centre of a viral TikTok recipe.
Sydney foodie Adrian Widjonarko showcased what he claimed was 'the best supermarket rotisserie chicken dish hack' in a recent video.
The food and culture blogger demonstrated how opening the bag and fully removing the cooked chicken reveals some often overlooked remnants inside.
Sydney foodie Adrian Widjy demonstrated how to make this simple and tasty chicken rice dish using the juices at the bottom of a supermarket hot chook bag
Simply toss cooked rice, herbs and shredded chicken straight into the juice-filled bag and mix well for an instant meal
'Notice there is so much juice at the bottom usually,' Adrian explained in a post shared to his @PlacesinSydney Instagram account.
Rather than throwing it away, Adrian explained that these leftover chicken juices make a brilliant stock sauce base for a tasty chicken rice dish.
Using the juice-filled bag in lieu of a mixing bowl, Adrian recommended to 'simply add [cooked] rice and lots of your favourite green herbs - for me, chopped spring onions.'
Then, you shred the cooked chicken, add it back into the bag, and mix it all together until well combined. The end result? A hearty, vibrant and very easy chicken rice dish that's ready in minutes.
He declared the easy meal creation 'perfection' - and after over 1.5 million people viewed the video, many agreed with him.
