The unexpected $3 item from Aldi Australia that's flying off shelves: 'Drooling thinking about it'

A trendy food item is now being sold at Aldi Australia, with shoppers racing in-store to get their hands on it while they can.

A customer was among the first to spot a 'Green Goddess' dip, which has landed in the chilled section at her local store.

Sold under Aldi's popular own-brand Deli Originals, the 200g tub is priced at $2.99 and is described on the packaging as 'a creamy, herby dip'.

The woman who had snapped up the 'new limited time only dip' promptly rated it in a Reddit thread as '10/10'.

'Tempted to eat the whole tub in one go,' she elaborated. 'Would be amazing as a salad dressing too, or spread on warm Turkish bread.'

Sharing a picture of the new Aldi food find, she lightheartedly captioned it: 'I will go back to buy them all.'

News of the dip immediately excited fellow shoppers.

'I will go to Aldi tomorrow - fingers crossed ours has this dip,' read one response.

'I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow, looks like I need to drop by ALDI.'

'Wow, they must be good if you're buying them all,' laughed another reply.

An Aldi Australia spokesperson confirmed to Daily Mail that 'this delicious dip landed on shelves just a few weeks ago, and as a Limited Time Only treat, it’s here for a good time, not a long time.'

'For only $2.99, it’s a flavour-packed addition to any meal, or simply enjoyed as a tasty snack with your favourite chips or carrot sticks,' the spokesperson added.

Some Aldi shoppers have already gotten their hands on the new snack food, confirming it was 'delicious' and 'fresh tasting'.

'Yes, this is amaze, can confirm,' read one reply.

A number of responses also offered serving suggestions with other Aldi favourites.

'It goes well with those baked pea chips,' said one person, likely referring to Aldi-stocked Harvest Snaps.

'I had it for dinner with the Aldi [Spinach and Cheese] Spanakopita and fresh lemon,' shared another.

Others were eager to know the ingredients list, with the woman who ignited the discussion on Reddit happy to share a back-of-pack picture.

According to the image, the main ingredients include cooked chickpeas, vegetable oil, spinach, and a mixture of green herbs like basil, parsley, dill and mint, giving it its distinctive colour.

The dip also contains lemon juice, tahini paste, garlic, egg, vegetable seasoning, and salt, along with various other preserving and stabilising ingredients.

One shopper who had tried the dip seconded that it was 'so tasty' - adding that they were already worried about how long they'd be able to enjoy it before it was discontinued.

'Does anyone know why they do limited time items? If it's popular, why not make it permanent?' they mused.

The conversation also sparked some shoppers to share another brilliant Green Goddess flavoured item currently in Aussie supermarkets, this one stocked at Coles.

Many replies explained they were impressed by the Coles own-brand Green Goddess Salad Dressing, which is priced at $4.70 for a 250ml bottle.

'That Green Goddess at Coles is literally the only reason I go there. I buy a couple of bottles and that's it. Nothing else,' one person revealed.

'It's with the salad dressings in the aisles, in a tall, skinny glass bottle,' another clarified, 'And it's the Coles brand one.'

Others who 'like the Green Goddess salad dressing from Coles' speculated whether the new Aldi dip 'tastes similar to that'.

'If this dip tastes anything like that, I too would want to buy every single one on the shelf,' joked one reply.

One person said their go-to combination was the Coles Green Goddess salad dressing combined with 'any variety of small tomatoes, marinated goats cheese and cucumber'.

'It actually is delicious! Drooling thinking about it,' they added.

About four years ago, Green Goddess salad went viral on social media after US chef Baked By Melissa coined the name and shared her recipe.
