Bored of grey skies and weighed down by endless heavy layers? Me, too. While we wait for the weather to perk up, incorporating a little spring into your wardrobe with these new-season styling tricks will instantly lighten your mood.

Wear your greens

One of the simplest ways to lift a winter wardrobe is to weave in a note of green – a key player for spring. I’m currently layering olive with greys, blues, blacks and winter whites for a look that feels both new and fresh. Alternatively, wear a green shade as a monochrome statement or try a mix of soft greens for an effortlessly sophisticated finish.

Shrobe with a yellow knit

On the S/S 26 catwalk, Bottega Veneta delivered this standout styling trick. Over the coming weeks, I’m planning to replicate the designer’s hit look with a light-green trouser suit worn with a chunky, buttery-yellow jumper casually draped over my shoulders. Yellow brings warmth, optimism and a welcome flash of light – exactly what we all need at this time of year.

Adopt Mandarin-style details

Jackets featuring the look’s distinctive collars, frog fastenings and intricate embroidery are emerging as a key trend. Amsterdam-based brand Róhe helped introduce these elevated touches to the fashion arena last year, and their appeal has been steadily building ever since. Wear yours now with a fine rollneck and wide-leg denim for a vibe that feels both structured and relaxed.

Add polish with pearls, brooches and silk scarves

Toteme’s new spring collection includes a sophisticated long pearl necklace – the perfect piece to wear draped nonchalantly over blazers or cosy knits à la Coco Chanel. Layer in a silk neck scarf (see above right) for an instant touch of colour. Or pin a vintage brooch to your winter coat to add personality to otherwise simple layers.

ZING THE BLUES

Ice blue is a key colour for spring. Team this merino-wool jumper by Hush with winter browns to update your wardrobe.

TO TIE FOR

Joseph has added chic silk scarves to its new-season collection. Layer this one over a knit to add a pop of interest.

SPOTTED

When it comes to style, Lily Allen is never afraid to adopt the ‘more is more’ approach. At Maison Valentino’s recent couture show in Paris, she wore a spotty pussy-bow blouse and ruche-detail green velvet skirt with buckets of flair.
