PUNCHY PATCHWORK
I’m a huge fan of understated minimalism. I mean, show me a fashion editor who isn’t! But then something like patchwork jackets come along and my personal style, pared back over three decades to a selection of white T-shirts and black trousers, goes out the window.
FOLKSY STYLE
They’re eye-catching, fussy and twee with too many colours, clashing prints and quilting. All the things I hate ... and yet I love them.
Ulla Johnson’s folksy quilted cotton jacket is top of my wish list. I’d wear it with high-waisted stonewashed jeans or pull it over my favourite summer dress (a predictably dull black midi, of course), but the £565 price tag means it’s simply out of reach.

FLATTERING FIT
At £416, Doen’s patchwork is also pricey, but I couldn’t resist including it because it’s a work of art. At the slightly more affordable end of the spectrum, Monsoon has a flattering longline offering which beautifully conceals your bottom. Then there’s French Connection’s hooded jacket, at £160, and Next’s beautiful blue design, only £44.
