The real reason behind R-Truth's return to WWE - with the fan favourite appearing at Money in the Bank just days after being released from the company

  • R-Truth made a sensational return during Money in the Bank on Saturday
  • Just one week previously it appeared his 17-year tenure in WWE was over

R-Truth made a shocking return to WWE just days after it appeared his contract with the company had not been renewed.

Truth, now going by his real name Ron Killings, emotionally announced last week that his nearly two-decade spell with the company had come to an end amid multiple other high-profile releases.

'I'm sorry to inform you all. I just got released from WWE,' the 53-year-old wrote on X.

'I want to thank WWE for the ride, but MOSTLY I want to thank each and EVERYONE OF YOU who was along for the ride.

'Thank you for all the love, support, and appreciation you have given me over the years.'

The news quickly caused backlash among fans on social media, with many accusing the company of displaying a lack of loyalty to one of their most trusted talents.

Truth's exodus ultimately proved to be short-lived however, as he renewed his feud with John Cena by intervening in the Undisputed WWE champion's match at Money in the Bank on Saturday.

At the post-show press conference WWE chief Triple H appeared to indicate that the Truth's contact situation had all been part of the show.

However, a report from Fightful has revealed that the situation was not a work.

Sources told the publication that Truth had been let go in a 'cold and impersonal way' and that he had reportedly been informed of the news by a talent relations employee rather than the senior brass.

Amidst a significant furore from fans, WWE are said to have contacted Truth multiple times throughout the intervening period without a response before WWE president Nick Khan intervened and was able to strike a deal on a new contract.

The deal is said to have been completed with 72 hours of Saturday's premium live event in Inglewood, California.
