'Everton need to capitalise on Liverpool's weakness'

I have covered many of these games and usually it’s a case of looking at the Everton team and trying to work out how they may be able to make things difficult for Liverpool. Is that the way it will be today? I am not so sure.
This is an Everton team with quality and energy in it and I think David Moyes will tell them to impose their football – and not just their attitude – on Arne Slot’s team. Liverpool’s last two away performances – at PSG and Man City – were feeble. Everton have got to capitalise on a clear weakness.

'Liverpool need energy in midfield'

Jamie Carragher, former Liverpool defender, on Sky Sports:

The fact we questioned him about Szoboszlai tells me that maybe Szoboszlai will be in midfield and it may be Curtis Jones [at right-back]. That has happens more of late, with Jones finding himself in the right-back position.
That's an area Liverpool need to rectify in the summer - they need more energy in midfield. If you put Szoboszlai in a central midfield role, he gives you that.

10 minutes to go...

How are the nerves?

I imagine if you are a blue or a red, you are absolutely bricking it right now.

That's because the warm-ups are now history, and we have only 10 minutes until kick-off.

It's almost derby time.

'Villa could move into pole position'

Hello from a sun-kissed Villa Park, where Unai Emery is hoping his Aston Villa side can pick up where they left off in Thursday's resounding 4-0 victory over Bologna. Win this afternoon, and they could go six points clear of Liverpool to move into pole position for a top-four finish. They'll need Everton to do their bit in the other 2pm kick-off, but don't forget that Villa can also go 10 POINTS clear of Chelsea with a victory today.
Standing in their way is a mightily impressive Sunderland side though, who won't make it easy for them. Regis Le Bris's men are fresh off consecutive wins against Newcastle and Tottenham, and are eyeing an outside chance of taking a European spot themselves. The other fixtures may appear more glamorous than this one, but there is plenty at stake here in the West Midlands.

Isak's poor Everton record

Now this is interesting.

At Newcastle, Alexander Isak seemed to rip every Premier League defence apart... well, apart from Everton's.

The Swedish striker has only scored one goal against the Toffees during his four years in the Premier League. Not great, really.

He did get that crazy assist against them a few years ago, to be fair. You know, the one where he dribbled past half their team in a right space by the byline? Yeah, that one.

Anyway, Liverpool will be hoping he ends his hoodoo today.

Slot: 'It makes sense to start Isak'

Arne Slot, Liverpool boss, on Sky Sports:

One of the reasons we came up with the line-up, we all know how special this game is, so to have a little bit of experience can help. We've mixed that with three players that are going to play this away game for the first time.

On Alexander Isak starting:

I don't know why they are surprised. During the week he was able to play 55-60 minutes. The good thing was if you let him start he has 15 minutes to rest at half-time and go again. For me it makes complete sense if you have a number nine that is able to play 60-75 minutes depending on the intensity of the game to play him - and that's what we do.

On the fight for top five:

To do that we have to focus on the game and the task at hand. We know their qualities, we know our qualities. We know what we need to do here. It will never be easy. We have to fight really hard, which we are going to do today. Then we are going to look at the league table, but first it's about the task at hand.

Villa closing in on Top 5 place

Aston Villa are nearly there.

Win today, and you could well say that they have pretty much qualified for the Champions League.

Victory would send them 10 points clear of Chelsea in sixth with just four games to go.

However, they are playing a Sunderland side who are in fine fettle after beating both Newcastle and Tottenham.

This won't be easy for them.

'Anderson to lay flowers in memory of mother'

Elliot Anderson will lay flowers in the centre circle before kick-off, and there will be a period of applause. Anderson missed Forest’s victory over Porto following the death of his mother, Helen.

'Moyes one of the best managers of the year'

Gareth Barry, former Everton midfielder, speaking to BOYLE Sports:

I wasn't surprised last season when David Moyes obviously did the job and kept them up and steadied the ship, finishing the season strong. I thought this season could be a bit tricky with the new ground. You know, seeing at Spurs how tricky it is for them and other teams when they do move into a new stadium, especially from Goodison Park, which has sort of kept them up in a few seasons gone by.
But he's adapted to that. The home form hasn't been as good as the away form, which I sort of expected because it's tricky going to that new stadium and the fans settling in. Given the position they found themselves in and the performances away from home this season, he definitely should be talked about as one of the best managers of the year.

Beto rediscover's his brilliance

Remember last season, when Beto suddenly became one of the best strikers in the league after David Moyes took over.

Well, it feels like he is coming back into that form again.

Beto has been involved in five goals in his last five Premier League appearances, scoring four goals and bagging one assist, with only Bruno Fernandes involved in more since the start of this run on 28th February.

No player has scored more goals in that time; he’s level with Brentford’s Igor Thiago.

After a sticky start to the season, Beto is back to his best. And don't forget, he seems to love causing Liverpool problems.

Can he bag another derby day goal today?

'Everton could reel Liverpool in'

Chris Sutton, former Premier League striker, on BBC Sport:

I actually thought Liverpool did OK against PSG in midweek and had a period where they took the game to them, even if they did not get the result they needed.
Now this season is all about finishing in the top five for Slot, but Everton are a good side and, if they win this, they can reel Liverpool in. An Everton win was actually my first thought here, but I've changed my mind. I'm going to sit on the fence instead.

'Forest need forceful start against Burnley'

Forest were strangely passive for much of last week’s 1-1 draw with Villa, as though they were happy with a point. That approach can only be justified if they beat Burnley here and to do so, a forceful start is so important.
Murillo plays despite hobbling off in the win over Porto, but there’s no sign of Callum Hudson-Odoi in the squad.
